CYCLING IN ISTRIANATURESPORT

Cycling and Hiking the Lim Bay (Limski Kanal)

Cycling and Hiking the Lim Bay is one of the best ways to experience this natural wonder up close. Stretching inland from the Adriatic like a winding fjord, the Lim Bay (Limski kanal) is one of Istria’s natural treasures. Surrounded by steep forested hills, this 13-kilometer-long channel offers more than just breathtaking views – it’s a paradise for cyclists and hikers.

Whether you prefer to explore on two wheels or on foot, the trails around Lim Bay promise a blend of natural beauty, fresh sea air, and a sense of tranquil adventure.

A trail for every explorer

The cycling and hiking routes follow the ridge above the bay, offering panoramic views of the emerald waters below. One of the most popular starting points is Vrsar, from where you can follow well-marked trails along the bay’s edge or climb up into the surrounding forests and hills.

For hikers, the St. Romuald’s Cave adds an intriguing stop. Named after a medieval hermit, the cave sits high above the channel, offering not just spectacular views but also a touch of mysticism.

Cyclists can follow routes that connect Vrsar with Rovinj or Kanfanar, passing olive groves, vineyards, and ancient stone walls. These paths offer varying levels of difficulty, from leisurely rides to more challenging ascents.

Nature and refreshment

Along the way, you’ll encounter viewpoints, perfect for pausing and soaking in the landscape. And if you venture down to the water’s edge, you’ll find oyster farms and seafood restaurants known for some of the freshest shellfish in Istria.

Exploring Lim Bay offers a different pace – one that allows you to move with the land, breathe deeply, and connect with Istria’s wilder side.
