Cingarela cave and waterfall

Nestled between the villages of Kaštel and Momjan in northwestern Istria, the Cingarela cave and waterfall offer an adventurous excursion for hiking enthusiasts. This secluded natural wonder is located in a canyon carved by the Poganja (also known as Arđila) stream, creating a picturesque landscape that captivates visitors.

The Trail

The journey begins in the village of Kaštel, where you can park near the Church of St. Saba. Cross the road and follow the macadam path towards Gadari. After approximately an hour’s walk through marked forest trails, you’ll arrive at the Cingarela Cave. This cave, once inhabited during the Copper Age, provides a cool respite and a glimpse into prehistoric times. Continuing from the cave, the trail descends steeply to the Cingarela Waterfall, which is particularly impressive after heavy rains when the water flow is at its peak. A charming suspension bridge adds to the allure of the site.
